Loading NAIP map files

You can load a geo-referenced map image into PC-GPS, PC-GIS and PC-MAPPER for use as a background map. The NAIP map files can be downloaded from

http://datagateway.nrcs.usda.gov

When loading a geo-referenced map, you will need to know the datum, coordinate system and distance unit used by the geo-referenced map.

Select Map/Coordinate System in your CMT PC software then set the correct datum, coordinate system and distance unit. Then click the “L” icon on the toolbar to load the desired map image. For example, select NAD 83, UTM, Zone 17, and Meters for the NAP map for the McCormick County of North Carolina.

After you have loaded the geo-referenced map, you can use Map/Coordinate System to switch to the coordinate system and distance unit that you normally work with.
