How to load a CMT Basemap

“I wanted to know how i can load a base map onto my screen when working on creating a map. I have tried (:Utilities/Base map/Load Base Map For City) but it doesn’t seem to work.”

Have you already copied the CMT Basemap files to your PC under c:\Basemap? If not, please download BASEMAP (for Arizona and vicinity) from

Then create a folder c:\Basemap on your PC and unzip the downloaded file to this folder.

Select View – Basemap – Display Basemap.

Now, when you open a Job file with Features in Arizona, the Basemap should automatically show up.

If you load a Basemap by using Utilities – Basemap – Load/Change Basemap, make sure that the folder used is c:\basemap.

“Can you remind me how to remove the tan color from the background on the base maps? This uses a lot of ink. Just need a white background.”

Under Basemap – Basemap Options please turn off “City Limits” and “County Subdivisions”.

We need a basemap for YUMA county in Arizona, can you help?

Please download Basemap from

Please copy the entire “basemap” folder to the C: drive of your PC. Select Utilities – Load/Change Basemap and specify the folder “c:\basemap”. You may then select from the listed counties for which to load the basemaps.

To see the basemap, select View/Basemap and make sure “Display Basemap” is checked.
When “Display Basemap” is checked, whenever you open a job, the applicable basemap will be automatically loaded if the basemap resides in the c:\basemap folder of
your PC.

Need help adding the bottom part of the basemap … can we add more than one basemap?

Yes, you can load more than one basemap to each Job.
Please select Utilities – Load/Change Basemap and unmark the checkbox for “Free original basemap”. Then select the desired additional basemap to load.

Where are the Basemaps?

A few users in USA were unable to load a CMT Basemap for use with their PCGPS or PC-GIS job file because the Basemap files were not copied from the Basemap CD to the correct folder.

The Basemap CD contains one folder named Basemap, with subfolders containing the county-based Basemap files for a number of states in the USA.

Please insert the CD into a CD ROM drive of your PC.
Right-click on the folder and select Copy.
Then paste the entire Basemap folder to the c: drive of your PC.
If you are using Windows 7 or 8, you must have administrative rights to the PC in order to paste items to the c: drive.

After the Basemap folder is in place, PC-GIS 09 and PC-GPS 09 will be able to locate the Basemaps under c:\Basemap.

To use a Basemap, you could open a job file containing a Feature in Texas then select View\Basemap\Display Basemap to automatically open the Basemap for the county in which the Feature is located.

Or, if there are no Features in the job map that you’ve opened, you can still load a Basemap by using Utilities\Basemap\Load/Change Basemap and select the desired State and County.
